Stable Overview

Introduction:

Welcome to White Star Stables the home of leading female trainer/driver Nicky Chilcott. White Star has been the road to success for many racehorse owners who have supported Nicky from humble beginnings as a public trainer in the mid 90's. And what a road it has been, White Star has built itself a reputation as one of the regions leading stables through hard work, good management and tender love and care of the horses.

Proven Success:

White Star Stables offers a one on one based training regime with each horse being treated and trained as an individual, along with keeping the mind of the horse mentally fresh which has proved a recipe that has brought huge success.

A long list of winners headlined by "Disprove" an 11 win pacer and winner of the G1 Easter Cup, Group 2 Kaikoura Cup and Group 2 Easter Free For All. "Shredder" 11 wins including the Wellington Cup. "Waharoa" 10 wins, "Landora's Image" 7 wins "Alien Waits" 6 wins and many more boast White Star Stables and trainer Nicky Chilcott's impressive CV. With wins and placing's totalling over 500 and near $2 million in stakes it is not hard to see why owners have been choosing White Star Stables as the home for their racehorse.

Services:

White Star Stables offers a full service to racehorse owners from selecting a yearling at the sales through to crossing the finishing line first and enjoying the thrill and excitement that is harness racing. Everything your horse needs is covered whether it be beach training, early education, lameness issues or just some tender love and care from a female perspective.
Here at White Star Stables we realise that not everyone wants to own a racehorse outright and so every year syndicates are formed for yearlings through to older race horses covering a number of different options including the ever popular "Summer Fun Syndicate" that for a relatively small input race a horse predominately on the summer grass circuit.

Nicky Chilcott

Nicky Chilcott has been at the forefront of harness racing in New Zealand for the last 10 years.. Recognised as a pioneer for women within the industry in this country, Nicky's achievements have far exceeded even her own expectations. From humble beginnings growing up in Morrinsville Nicky has built a reputation as a hardworking, well respected horse person. The daughter of Graeme and Lynn, Nicky's love of harness racing began at a young age with her father running a successful racing and breeding operation which produced many winners - the best of them being Poplar Country. He also stood the successful sire Gains Minbar. Nicky's early schooling began in Morrinsville and then she attended Hamilton Girls' High School. After finishing high school she studied Physical Education at Otago University.

In 1997 Nicky took out her trainers licence and the road that has lead to White Star Stables began to develop. Perhaps "lucky" as she describes it Nicky, was to train many a talented horse headlined in the early days by "Waharoa" a Dillion Dale gelding who went on to win 10 races in Nicky's care. Her achievements over the last decade have not gone unnoticed. She has twice won the North Island Rookie Trainer of the Year title and on several occasions has been Cambridge Raceway leading trainer. Many highlights are on Nicky's newsreel but one that stands alone from the others is the win of Disprove in the Group 1 Easter Cup at Addington, Christchurch. The Cameleon gelding won 11 races including the Group 2 Kaikoura Cup and Group 2 Easter Free For All also raced at Addington.

Zoe

Hey my name is Zoe. I have been around horses since before I could walk and they are my one passion in life!!

I was born in England and have been in New Zealand since 2003. I trained in England as a horse riding instructor where I gained my B.H.S A.I which makes me a fully qualified Instructor and Groom. I also have my NVQ levels 2 and 3 in Horse Care and Riding and passed three papers at college on Horse Management and theory of riding.

I am currently training my young horse at preliminary dressage and low level jumping, and have just started competing him and we are going well.
I love this job!

Now a permanent part of the White Star Stables team and steps up as "foreperson" as an integral member of staff, dealing with all the ground work and stepping up in the absence of Nicky while she drives on the circuit.

Mac

Mac is a passionate owner and part-time worker at White Star Stables. He shares in the ownership of the "Tomado" horses having been introduced to the sport through Tom Rodewald.

Mac and his wife Joy live in Matamata. Mac has been a milk man in Matamata for 35 years and originally started as a Greyhound trainer and met Tom Rodewald via the greyhounds. Tom persuaded Mac to become involved in harness racing and their first horse was Waingaro Lassie which started with Robert Mitchell. The horse came to White Star Stables and subsequently won six races. The trio who raced her decided to venture into breeding and racing and she has produced five foals four of which have won races.

Mac decided to expand his harness racing involvement by becoming an amateur driver. He completed an amateur driving course and loves getting out on the race track competing. He works Wednesday's all day and Friday mornings with Nicky at White Star Stables. He (along with his racing partners) currently have President Tomado in work and Mac has Bettor's Image as his amateur driving horse.

Megan

Megan TeazMegan Teaz has recently joined the White Star Stables team on a permanent part-time basis. Married to Jason, she has always been involved with horses. Her mother, trained Perigo to his first 6 wins from her Pukekohe base. Megan started driving as a 10 year old and eventually went to work for trainer, Tony Grayling and gained her Junior Drivers Licence while working for him.

To date Megan has driven 3 winners - obviously looking for more and since working for Nicky Chilcott, is starting get more driving opportunities.
